Frequently Asked Questions

Neurotoxins are purified proteins that temporarily relax muscles. Common brand names include Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau®.

  • Wrinkles and fine lines: Reduce the appearance of frown lines, forehead lines, and crow's feet caused by repeated facial expressions.
  • Muscle spasms: Treat chronic muscle contractions like those associated with cervical dystonia (neck pain) and hemifacial spasm (facial twitching).
  • Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis): Provide relief from underarm sweating, hand sweating, or foot sweating.

Botox, Dysport, Jeauveau and Xeomin are all injectable neuromodulators/neurotoxin that use a purified protein called botulinum toxin type A to temporarily relax muscles. They are FDA-approved for both cosmetic and therapeutic purposes.

  • Effectiveness: All four are FDA-approved and proven effective for cosmetic purposes, lasting 3-6 months.
  • Procedure: The injection process is similar for all.
  • Safety: Extensive clinical trials support their safety when administered by a qualified professional.
  • Proteins: Botox, Jeauveau, and Dysport contain additional proteins, while Xeomin is protein-free. These proteins may slightly extend the effects of Botox and Dysport but can also increase the risk of allergic reaction.
  • Diffusion: Dysport tends to spread more after injection compared to Botox, Jeauveau, and Xeomin. This can be beneficial for treating larger areas but requires more precise injection for targeted areas.
  • Onset and Duration: There isn't a significant difference, but some studies suggest Xeomin and Dysport might show results slightly faster than Botox. All three typically last around 3-4 months.

Choosing Between Botox, Dysport, Jeauveau, and Xeomin:

Botox:

  • Brand Recognition: The original and most popular neuromodulator, making it a common household name.
  • Targeted Treatment: The ingredients stay isolated and spread less compared to Dysport, making it ideal for precise injections in specific areas.
  • Consideration: While potentially more expensive per unit, fewer units might be needed due to its targeted effect.

Jeauveau

  • Jeuveau is the latest neuromodulator treatment to become available in the USA
  • Jeauveau is structuraly similar to Botox , manufactured with an advanced method for encasing the toxin in a protein structure.
  • Cost: Jeuveau is less than Botox, which is also an advantage for many

Dysport:

  • Wrinkle Reduction: A diluted product that spreads more than Botox or Xeomin, making it a good choice for larger areas like the forehead.
  • Cost: The price per unit is lower than Botox, but more units might be needed due to its spreadability, potentially making the total cost similar.

Xeomin:

  • Protein-Free: Ideal for those with potential protein sensitivities. Studies suggest it might work faster than Botox, although research is ongoing.
  • Reduced Allergic Reaction Risk: The lack of added proteins compared to Botox and Dysport lowers the risk of allergic reactions.
  • Sustainability: Often considered the most sustainable option due to its purity and lack of added ingredients.

During a consultation at at Vixen Wellness & Medical Spa, a qualified medical professional can assess your needs and recommend the best injectable option for you. They will consider factors like your desired outcome, the area being treated, and your individual preferences.

  • Good Physical Health: Overall good health is important as neurotoxins can interact with certain medications or underlying conditions.
  • No Neuromuscular Diseases: People with Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome should avoid them due to potential interference with nerve signals.
  • Not Pregnant or Breastfeeding: Safety data for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding is limited.
  • 18 Years or Older: Neurotoxins are not approved for use on individuals under 18.
